SERVPRO Provides an Array of Equipment to Eliminate Smoke Odors
The effects of a house fire can take weeks or even months to overcome. Fortunately, few fires destroy a home or even cause major, structural damage. Restoration costs normally come from the results of the smoke from burning materials and the soot left behind.
Most fire damage to Brattleboro homes come from smoke and soot, but the lasting effect for many owners and residents is the odor. Removing smoke and other fire-related odors are challenging and require a professional company. SERVPRO has the experience to know that leaving furniture out overnight and throwing a new coat of paint over walls and the ceiling only masks odors temporarily. It is why we have an extensive inventory of equipment designed just for this purpose.
Electric Pressure Sprayers – Our technicians use these to dispense chemical cleaners and deodorizing agents at a rate of 50 psi. They spray the cleaners and agents directly onto the surface of the structure, carpets, and fabrics that have heavy smoke and soot residues.
Ventilation Fans – These industrial box fans move air at high velocities, from 3000 to 5000 cubic feet of air per minute. They are especially useful to ventilate a home that is wet from the actions of the firefighters by introducing dry air from outside of the home to displace the moisture air and dry surfaces the air moves across. These axial fans are used when there is no danger of smoke being circulated to unaffected areas of the house.
Ozone Machines – These devices generate a gas of O3 molecules that react with odor-causing molecules in the air. This action oxidizes the molecules, altering them and removing the odor. We evacuate the home of people and pets and remove items made of or containing natural rubber which deteriorates in the presence of ozone. When the process is complete, the ozone gas reverts to normal oxygen, leaving no residues. While smoke restoration is on-going, it is safe to deploy hydroxyl generators which also alter the chemical nature of the odors.
Injectors – We use special pumps and large needles to inject small amounts of deodorizers into confined stains on carpets and furniture upholstery. It is our preferred method instead of pulling up a carpet or sending a sofa off to be recovered. For large spaces, like attics or isolated rooms, we can also perform a thermal fogging which allows the odor destroying particles to follow the path of the odorous smoke particulates.
These pieces of equipment are just a few of the devices we have available to us. The goal for SERVPRO of Windham & Windsor Counties is to return your home to its original condition.
